Faith & Becoming

Pull up a chair. Let’s talk about faith, life, and all the questions in between. ☕❤️

I’ve been thinking about faith lately.

Actually, I’ve been thinking about how interesting it is that two people can look at the very same world and see something completely different.

One sees God’s hand in everything.

Another sees nature, science, and the extraordinary way life works.

Someone else is still trying to figure out what they believe.

And then there are those who once believed something so strongly, only to have life come along and turn everything upside down.

Funny thing, life.

We spend so much of it thinking we’re supposed to have the answers.

And the older we get, the more we realize just how much we don’t know.

I have my own faith. It matters deeply to me.

But here’s something I’ve been thinking about.

Having faith doesn’t mean I have to stop being curious.

It doesn’t mean I can’t ask questions.

It doesn’t mean I can’t sit across from someone who believes differently and have a wonderful conversation.

In fact, I think some of the most interesting conversations happen when we stop trying to convince each other and start listening.

Because isn’t that how we learn?

I’ve never understood why people sometimes become so uncomfortable with questions about faith.

Surely if something matters deeply to us, we should be willing to explore it.

To wonder.

To sit quietly with something we don’t understand.

And sometimes to admit, “I really don’t know.”

Imagine that. 😂

Three little words that might actually bring us closer together.

I don’t know.

And perhaps that’s okay.

Perhaps faith and becoming aren’t about reaching a point where we have everything figured out.

Perhaps they’re about continuing to grow.

To question things we once accepted without thinking.

To recognize when our beliefs have helped us become kinder, more compassionate people.

And to be honest enough to recognize when our behavior hasn’t reflected those beliefs.

Ouch. That one can sting a little. ❤️

Because it’s easy to talk about love.

It’s another thing entirely to practice it when someone thinks differently, lives differently, or challenges something we believe.

And I think that’s worth talking about.

Not arguing.

Not pointing fingers.

Just talking.

Maybe over coffee.

Or tea.

Or whatever you’re drinking while reading this.

So what will you find here?

Thoughts about God, faith, Scripture, spirituality, forgiveness, kindness, and the sometimes complicated relationship between religion and everyday life.

There may be stories from the Bible.

There may be questions without tidy answers.

There may even be moments when we laugh at ourselves.

Because goodness knows, human beings can be a funny bunch. 😂

And if you’ve ever felt judged, excluded, or made to feel that you weren’t good enough to belong somewhere because of what you believe or don’t believe, I want you to know something.

You don’t have to prove anything to sit here.

You don’t have to agree with me.

You don’t have to explain your entire life story.

You can simply be curious.

You can be certain.

You can be uncertain.

You can be somewhere in between.

We’re all becoming something, aren’t we?

And maybe, just maybe, we can learn a little from each other along the way.

So welcome to Faith & Becoming.

Pull up a chair.

There’s room at this table.

Come as you are. No performance required. ❤️
